History

Our journey began with Frontier Contact Lenses in 1959 under Dr Allen Isen, George Sitterle, and Dr Feinbloom, who established a company in Buffalo, New York. Starting with just 30 employees, this pioneering organization produced hard contact lenses throughout the 1970s and was particularly renowned for its innovative toric lens design.

In the late 1970s, Frontier expanded its product line to include soft lenses. Recognizing a gap in market demand, they initiated their own production of soft lens plastic blanks. This move established Frontier as one of the first companies in the United States to harness European materials and combine them with lathe cutting technology for soft contact lenses.

Frontier's move from Buffalo, New York to Jacksonville, Florida in the early 1960s triggered a significant growth phase. The acquisition by Johnson Johnson in 1981 led to the rebranding as Vistakon; this marked the beginning of an exciting three-decade journey filled with groundbreaking innovations.

Innovation at its Core

The mid-1980s saw Johnson Johnson's acquisition of Danlens technology from Michael Bay, introducing a unique multi-patented SSM process. This allowed for precise manufacturing of lenses in a continuous soft state, setting new standards for industry performance.

In the late 20th century and early 21st centuries, Vistakon, now Johnson Johnson Vision Care Middle East, has continued its pioneering legacy by launching:

• 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye: The world's first silicone hydrogel dly disposable lens. Launched in 2008, this innovation marked a significant milestone for the industry.
